I appreciate your interest in our special school division and enthusiastically welcome you to our new and improved website. In an effort to provide you with a “snapshot” of our school system, I invite you to please take a few moments to listen to a brief video clip outlining our organization’s core beliefs and values. We are above all else, a well-performing and proud “system of schools” dedicated to simply one broad commitment: loving, growing and “doing right” by children…ALL of our children—no excuses and no exceptions. Thank you for the privilege of sharing them with all of you. They are truly our wonderful community’s greatest resource!

TOWNHALL MEETING
for public input and discussion on budget planning for the 2010-11 school year.
Where: Central Middle School Library
Date: Tuesday, March 16, 2010
Time: 7:30 p.m.
The School Board and Superintendent welcome the opportunity to receive suggestions to address the critical state revenue shortfall impacting CCPS over the next 2 years. | SUPERINTENDENT TRAVELS TO INDIA!
Mrs. Hackney took her much anticipated trip to India in early November of 2009. Originally scheduled for late November of 2008, the trip was abruptly cancelled two days before the scheduled departure as a result of the terrorist attacks on Mumbai. After almost another year of planning and evaluating the security risks of rescheduling, the trip was on!
Traveling with a large group of Virginia superintendents and donors, Mrs. Hackney was able to experience first-hand this very interesting and intriguing country. The group visited schools, businesses, universities and many diverse communities throughout the country. Mrs. Hackney reported her two greatest lessons learned: how blessed we are to live in America, a country that proudly provides every child a public education; and how important it is for our students to stay globally competitive with students from other countries.
Mrs. Hackney, with the support of the CCPS Instructional Technology staff, has a prepared presentation highlighting this once-in-a-lifetime experience that she currently shares with student and community groups upon request. The book also received first place with three marks of distinction from the National Scholastic Press Association and a gold medal with Columbia Scholastic Press Association with All-Columbian Honors in concept and photography. Members of the 2009 staff included: Jessica Anderson, Anne Catron, Katie Cross, Hannah Davis, Vivian Hackney, Katlyn Hall, Savannah Ketchum, Samantha Meier, Ethan Miller, Jonathan Pannell, Lelia Rice, Alexis Roberts, Kelsey Walsh, Kendall Whirley, and Mary Michael Wills.
