PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM
A National Distinguished School
-
Charlotte County Public Schools has offered a program for pre-kindergarten or four-year old children since 1988.
-
Parents are encouraged to visit or observe their child or volunteer at the center. Parents are invited to chaperone field trips, provide programming to a class or celebrate their child's birthday with a party. Parents are required to meet with their child's teacher throughout the school year to discuss their child's academic and social progress.
-
The retention rate of those children having attended pre-kindergarten is less than 1%.
-
81% of children having attended pre-kindergarten are scoring above the national average on standardized tests in reading and math.
-
A copy of Charlotte County’s curriculum for pre- kindergartners has been requested by 32 school divisions and/or schools to date, and its centers have been visited by 16 school divisions. It has also been correlated with the kindergarten SOLs.
-
The Early Learning Center is one of five separate schools in the state to house a Title I preschool program. The students work daily in their 20 station lab utilizing Pentium 100 computers. The preschool software curriculum integrates academic skills and concepts using the latest multimedia.
