General Responsibilities

The Executive Director of Operations will provide supervision and leadership to the maintenance, transportation and technology departments.  These oversite duties will include supervision of custodial services, budgetary development and procurement for the acquisition of goods and services.

Duties

  1. Provides emergency services in the overall area of maintenance as needed.
  2. Conforms to all laws, policies and practices of safety in the workplace.
  3. Develops a system for dealing with emergency repair problems.
  4. Complete necessary reports to local health department, DEQ, etc.
  5. Establishes and recommends priorities on repair projects.
  6. Insure compliance with the codes and pertinent policies regarding training, licensing, registration, and operational permits.
  7. Recruit, recommend for employment, and evaluations of transportation department personnel excluding drivers.
  8. Provides information about the fleet leading to the purchase of new vehicles and declaring vehicles surplus.
  9. Recommend procurement of additional or replacement buses and disposal of old or uneconomical units.
  10. Develop and forecast transportation department budget requirements and administers the expenditure of funds as allocated.
  11. Maintain cost accounting records.
  12. Supervise general maintenance program with specific attention to safety inspections.
  13. Establish performance standards and supervise operational care, service and maintenance of all vehicles within the department.
  14. Conduct accident investigations and supervise accident report to appropriate law enforcement and insurance agencies.
  15. Evaluate safety of road conditions during inclement weather and provide timely information to superintendent.
  16. Provides for appropriate fiscal management, according to law and policy, of all allocated funds assigned.
  17. Establish and maintain good public relations program.
  18. Evaluate all elements of transportation program on continuing basis.
  19. Performs job specific services and supervises others as required in the following areas: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and general grounds work.
  20. Work with technology staff in creating and implementing a set of standards and goals to improve instructional technology.
  21. Evaluation of leadership staff for maintenance, transportation, technology departments.
  22. Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university with 5 or more years of managerial experience in the public school setting.  Preference will be given to applicants with work experience in facilities management, school construction/renovations and/or general operational maintenance, as well as, experience with instructional technology.  Preference will be given to applicants with a valid Virginia Teaching License.  The Executive Director of Operations, once employed by the school division, shall complete the “train the trainer” class conducted by the Virginia Department of Education within the first year of employment. Strong written and oral communication skills are also required.  A commitment to ethical leadership is a must.

Salary Range:  Commensurate with Experience
