Title IX
In May, 2020, the U.S. Secretary of Education issued new regulations amending the regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX). The final regulations, effective August 14, 2020, specify how recipients of Federal financial assistance covered by Title IX, including elementary and secondary schools, must respond to allegations of sexual harassment consistent with Title IX’s prohibition against sex discrimination. A summary prepared by the U.S. Department of Education is provided below.
Our Statement
(Policy JB) Equal educational opportunities shall be available for all students, without regard to race, national origin, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, or marital or parental status. Educational programs shall be designed to meet the varying needs of all students. No student, on the basis of gender, shall be denied equal access to programs, activities, services or benefits, or be limited in the exercise of any right, privilege, advantage, or denied equal access to educational and extracurricular programs and activities.
